چکیده

Served as one of the most widely used wireless airlink interface, CDMA has been identified as a major technique for 3G wireless communications. The current IS-95 CDMA provides a near-satisfactory security solution to voice centric wireless communications, since generally each voice conversation only lasts a very short period of time. However, the security features provided by IS-95 CDMA are far from adequate and being acceptable when used for data communications. In this paper, the security weakness of the existing CDMA airlink interface is analyzed. Encrypted key stream based on advanced encryption standard (AES) is proposed to be used in the scrambling process, instead of using the scrambling sequence generated from the 42bit linear feedback shift register (LFSR) as in IS-95. Ensured by AES, physical layer built-in security of the proposed scheme is much stronger than that of the IS-95 system.

Physical Layer Built-In Security Analysis and Enhancement Algorithms for CDMA Systems

Historically developed for secure communication and military use, CDMA has been identified as a major modulation and multiple-access technique for 3G systems and beyond. In addition to the wide bandwidth and low power-spectrum density which make CDMA signals robust to narrowband jamming and easy to be concealed within the noise floor, the physical layer built-in information privacy of CDMA syst...

Cryptographic CDMA code hopping (CH-CDMA) for signal security and anti-jamming

Today, military and commercial Spread Spectrum and CDMA transmission systems argue with security on the physical layer based on the secrecy of the seed values of static secure (and insecure) pseudorandom noise generators (PRNG). This should prevent eavesdropping and jamming [1, 2]. Confidentiality, data integrity and authenticity are usually realized in higher protocol layers [3]. Nevertheless,...

Throughput Improvement of STS-Based MC DS-CDMA System with Variable Spreading Factor

The throughput enhancement of Space-Time Spreading (STS)-based Multicarrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system is investigated in this paper. Variable Spreading Factor (VSF) is utilized to improve the data throughput of the system. In this contribution, an analytical approach is proposed to compute a new expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of t...
